Designs for Land Forces H.Q. Andover
In 2007 five stonecarvers (of which I was one) were selected to come up with design proposals for a huge frieze (18metres long) to be carved in portland stone. It was to be situated on the curved wall of the reception area of the main building of the Land Forces Headquarters, Andover. Just doing the design was a huge project but very rewarding and interesting. My respect for the army and it's people grew as I met and talked to young soldiers going through initial training, watched passing out parades, and heard from the horse's mouth about experiences on operations. I did not get picked to do the job and of course I was disappointed but at the same time a little bit of me was quite relieved.
